Cambridge will soon welcome a new health foods cafe, located at 7 Broad Canal Way in Kendall Square. Spearheaded by Chef Pushpir Bhetia, Depth ‘N’ Green is taking over the former site of Shanti Indian Cuisine. With construction currently underway, Chef Bhetia aims to welcome guests by the end of February 2024.

Having relinquished control of Guru the Caterer and D’Guru in 2015, he left the local area to immerse himself in India’s vibrant culinary landscape. Alongside Depth ‘N’ Green founder Shri Tarneiv Ji, Chef Bhetia honed his skills in traditional home-style cooking with a focus on wholesome ingredients. Despite the pandemic causing the closure of some branches, the main Depth ‘N’ Green cafe in South India, overseen by Bhetia during his time there, remains operational.
Reflecting on his journey in India, Chef Bhetia shares, “I wanted my daughters to learn more about India, and I needed to be close to my teacher. I’m back with much better knowledge about the food and the ingredients.” His dedication shines through in every aspect of his culinary pursuits.
The menu at the upcoming Cambridge restaurant mirrors the original with slight variations—pasta and wood-fired pizzas won’t be featured, but patrons can still savor a delightful selection of vegan cakes, millet cookies, gluten-free treats, traditional Indian thali, stuffed parathas, smoothies, and Indian-inspired sandwiches.
Additionally, a small corner within the cafe will feature pre-packaged teas, spices, pickles, chutneys, and South Indian coffee beans. Chef Bhetia emphasizes a commitment to wholesome ingredients, using ghee (clarified butter), olive oil, and avocado oil in the cooking process. Many spices will be directly sourced from farmers in India, ensuring authenticity and quality.
With the upcoming arrival of Depth ‘N’ Green, Chef Bhetia hopes to bring a taste of traditional home-style Indian food to Cambridge, cooked with care and attention to quality ingredients. The cafe promises to be a vibrant addition to Kendall Square’s dining scene, offering a unique blend of global inspiration and local flavors.
