Last fall, What Now Boston reported that the Great American Beer Hall (GABH) was planning to open at 142 Mystic Ave in Medford, though details about its in-house restaurant were still under wraps. Now, the 22,000-square-foot venue has announced its dining concept: The Lantern.

According to a press release from GABH, The Lantern will showcase “fresh ingredients and bright flavors, delivered with vibrant execution.” Leading the charge is General Manager and Executive Chef Nick Dowling, a seasoned professional with 24 years of industry experience.
“As a long-time resident of Medford, I see The Lantern and The Great American Beer Hall as cornerstones of the foundation to this rapidly growing city,” says Dowling in the release.
The Lantern’s name draws inspiration from Paul Revere’s midnight ride through Medford, where he used lanterns and pre-arranged signals to alert local militias of the advancing British troops.
The menu will feature contemporary American fare, including thoughtfully crafted entrées, appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and small plates. A highlight will be the brick oven-style pizzas, paired with unique dipping options for the crust.
Sample dishes include Roasted Red Beet Salad, Lollipop Chicken Drums, Cedar Plank Roasted Organic Salmon, and a range of pizzas like the Buffalo Chicken and Split Pea, Crab & Speck.
The restaurant’s design will pay homage to Medford’s historic roots, blending rustic and modern elements to create a timeless yet contemporary atmosphere. The Lantern will offer dine-in, takeout, and delivery services.
With a team of six partners overseeing its operations, including brothers Mark and Brian Zarthar, the Great American Beer Hall is set to make a splash with The Lantern as its in-house dining concept. Both establishments are scheduled to debut late this summer.
