Petrova Chocolates will open its second location at 61 Salem St. Founder Betty Petrova announced the news on social media, reflecting on her journey as a chocolatier.

“This moment feels like closing a full circle for me as a small business owner,” she wrote. “Some of you might remember those pandemic pick-ups from my tiny spot in the North End. Back then, I was working out of a small brick apartment, crafting just 3-4 molds of chocolate at a time in my kitchen. Now, we’re returning to where it all started, but with a little more space—and quite a bit more than 3 molds per round!”

Petrova opened the original East Boston shop in October of 2023, offering an array of handcrafted chocolates made using fair market practices and only the finest ingredients.

“This new space is designed with the chocolate and wine lover in mind,” Petrova told What Now Boston. In addition to her signature bonbons, chocolate bars, and dark chocolate caviar, the new shop will feature a selection of Eastern European natural wines, with a special focus on those from Bulgaria, Petrova’s home country.

“At Petrova Chocolates, we remain deeply committed to supporting cacao farmers and promoting fair market practices,” said Petrova. “We source our cacao directly from different regions of Ecuador, ensuring it is sustainably produced while supporting local farming communities. This dedication to quality and ethical sourcing is at the heart of everything we create and will also translate to our natural wine program.”

Petrova emphasized Bulgaria’s rich winemaking history, stating, “As you may know, Bulgaria is an ancient nation with a winemaking tradition that dates back over 5,000 years. Our diverse terroirs and indigenous grape varieties, such as Mavrud and Melnik, produce wines that are both unique and rich in history. I’m honored to bring a taste of this heritage to Boston, and I believe it will add something truly special to the North End’s vibrant culinary scene.”

While an exact opening date has not been set, Petrova Chocolates is expected to debut in the North End sometime in the spring of 2025.
