Co-founded by Bing Broderick, the former executive director of Haley House, and Porsha Olayiwola, Boston’s Poet Laureate, justBook-ish will serve as a vibrant community hub where people can meet and mingle, providing a “third place” sanctuary for all who enter its doors.
Spanning 1,250 square feet, the bright space will accommodate up to 17 guests, inviting patrons to linger over literature and libations, including coffee, beer, and wine. Broderick and Olayiwola aim to curate a collection highlighting local authors and marginalized voices, with a selection of social justice-themed books in a variety of languages, as well as works on queer theory, poetry, and more.
Beyond the books and beverages, the duo plans to challenge prevailing political paradigms in the publishing realm by hosting author talks, poetry readings, gallery exhibitions, live music, and workshops that move the needle.
As the June 2024 grand opening approaches, book enthusiasts and community advocates are invited to support justBook-ish via GoFundMe to help stock the shelves with 9,000 thoughtfully curated titles.
